Geeks Care: How You Can Help Peace Over Violence

When Fanboy Comics is not providing you with the latest in geek news and entertainment, the FBC staff hopes to offer our readers a myriad of opportunities to give back to the community. We love reading comics, watching movies, and playing video games, but we are never happier than when we are able to help others in need. With Geeks Care: How You Can Help, FBC will provide you a variety of causes that would greatly appreciate your time.

Given that it is the start of a long weekend, this week’s edition of Geeks Care: How You Can Help will endeavor to remind its readers that there are plenty of opportunities to give back to your community . . . and to have fun while doing it!  On Monday, June 2, 2014, CGFGC (Canned Goods for Good Charity) will be hosting their 6th Annual CGFGC Charity Ball & Swag Bag Party at King King Hollywood, and all proceeds from the event will benefit Peace Over Violence, a non-profit, multicultural, community-based, and volunteer-centered organization dedicated to building healthy relationships, families, and communities free from sexual, domestic, and interpersonal violence.  Offering an evening of comedy, music, raffle prizes, and free swag, we hope that you will enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment while learning how you can help.

Peace Over Violence provides crisis intervention services and violence prevention education. One on one, they listen, counsel, support, guide, and work to heal survivors of violence. One by one, they teach teens about healthy relationships, train girls in self-defense, instruct boys in conflict resolution, and advise on public policy. Peace Over Violence organizes and advocates.

In this year’s CGFGC Charity Ball, Emcee Travis Clark (Tiny Odd Conversations) will host an evening of comedy and music featuring comedians Sara Schaefer (MTV’s Nikki and Sara Live), Sam Comroe (Conan), Drew Lynch, Andie Bolt, and Lianna Carrera and musicians Mary Morales, EVMB (LA Beatbox Champion), Rachel B, and DJ Little Kinky. Greenbar Collective will sponsor one and a half hours of free signature cocktails from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Raffle prizes have been provided by Actor’s Key, AdultSwim, Artist Nidhi Chanani, artist Tess Fowler, Drongo Photo, Eufuria Pet Salon, Final Draft, Focus Features, Foxy and Fierce Bootcamp, Kneady Bakery, LGO Restaurants, Lola and Roxy’s Salon, Not a Burger Stand, Outback Steakhouse, Paramount Pictures, Perfect Touch Massage, Pickwick Lanes, Playroom Ent Games, and Push Pull Cardio. Best yet, all guests will take away gift bags stuffed with goodies provided by AdultSwim, Craftsman Soap, Criterion, D3P, Disney, Focus Features, Inno Games, Inventing Daily, Ketchup Entertainment, Lionsgate, Little Orbit, Lok-A-Bolt, Miramax, Paramount, Shout! Factory, Universal Home Entertainment, Warner Bros, and more!
