The Kickstarter Report: ‘The Children’s Vampire Hunting Brigade: Age of the Wicked’

With each installment of Fanboy Comics’ “Kickstarter Report” series, the FBC staff hopes to provide independent creators with a greater platform to showcase their talents to a new audience.  For that reason, we are also excited to see indie creators that find success with crowdfunding campaigns.  Even more exciting is when those creators return to crowdfunding with new and interesting projects, demonstrating their love of the comic book medium, their dedication to their work, and their motivation to bring new stories to an eager audience.  With that in mind, I am excited to share with the Fanboy Comics readers that writer David Blake Lucarelli and artist Henry Ponciano have recently launched their second Kickstarter campaign for The Children’s Vampire Hunting Brigade in order to bring the second installment of the highly enjoyable series to fruition.

The Children’s Vampire Hunting Brigade is a coming-of-age Gothic adventure comic inspired by the real-life Gorbals vampire incident, where hundreds of school children descended upon a Scottish cemetery looking for a vampire.  Dubbed by comic book reviewers as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders,” Volume 2 (Age of the Wicked) finds the Scottish juvenile delinquents Doug and Gavin – who fell into becoming the newest members of the Brigade in the first graphic novel – diving in full force to join the fight. As the vampire threat escalates, the Brigade goes to America to seek out a new recruit with a mysterious past, unaware that they are being manipulated by the vampires themselves.

Writer Lucarelli stresses that new readers to the series will easily be able to jump into the series with Volume 2, as he states, “The book is self-contained. It starts with a summary of all you need to know about what’s come before. You can also read the first 39 pages of the first graphic novel online for free at cvhb.net and then add on Volume 1 to the Kickstarter for the Brigade’s complete adventures.”

Be sure to visit The Children’s Vampire Hunting Brigade Kickstarter page, and don’t forget to check out the backer rewards, which include digital and printed copies of the graphic novel, Kickstarter-exclusive pendants and t-shirts, and more! The Kickstarter campaign will close on Monday, May 4th, so be sure to donate soon!
