‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters #2:’ Comic Book Review

Well, it’s been a little over a month, and I have been waiting in anticipation to see what happens to some of our favorite comic book heroes: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Ghostbusters!

Last month, it was Turtle friend Dr. Harold who mistakenly sent our four favorite pizza lovers back in time to New York City . . . but to a different New York City than they were familiar with. One in which ghosts roam the streets of New York instead of The Foot.  But, not just any ghost haunts this 4-part comic book series. Rather, this storyline is haunted by Chi-You, a powerful ghost-God from the Ninja Turtles’ past! And, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / The Ghostbusters #2 picks up right where we left off . . .

In this month’s issue, all of our eight new friends finally get the chance to meet. After the Ghostbusters mistakenly try to zap our heroes-in-a-half-shell, the two groups try to unite in capturing Chi-You and the people he has possessed, including Casey Jones! But, when Chi-You takes over the minds of the entire New York hockey team, and with 72 hours to get our Ninja Turtles back to their own dimension, things don’t seem to be falling in the way of our good guys.

But, that’s why we have writers like Erik Burnham and Tom Waltz to make us laugh. What a beautiful script they’ve written for Issue #2 in this series.  They perfectly match up each Ghostbuster with their Turtle equal based on personality traits.  Even April O’Neil and Janine are similar in so many ways, I would have never made the connection between these two comic books without Burnham and Waltz to guide the way.  This issue also includes multiple covers and stunning artwork by Dan Schoening. This month, my favorite is the Hastings exclusive cover with Raph holding a ghost catcher. A site I never would have imagined as a child but am so happy to now see as an adult.

In the meantime, make sure to pick up your own copy of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / The Ghostbusters #2 before it’s too late. Because this is one series you’ll want to display on your bookshelf with pride.

Until next month, who you gonna call?
