‘TMNT Ongoing #49:’ Advance Comic Book Review

I did NOT see that coming!

At first, I must admit that last month’s issue for the ongoing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle series was a little redundant. We began in the middle of a battle between our heroes and a swarm of Baxter Stockman’s mousers and flyborgs. But, we also left our pizza-loving friends in practically the same battle, this time in a different environment and with more friends to help.

So, now what?

This month, in TMNT Ongoing #49, our heroes-in-a-half-shell (and a tall, talking rat) find resolution within a scenario that I did NOT expect!

Without giving too much away, I have a new-found respect for Karai, Shredder’s granddaughter. In this issue, she shows us all what true honor should look like, but not in the way you might suspect. Now, I would be lying if I told you that this story doesn’t end in the middle of another intense battle, but with mutants and ninjas running amock, I don’t know why I would have expected anything less.

As always, I have great respect for Kevin Eastman, Bobby Curnow, and Tom Waltz. I’ve been reading their ongoing TMNT storyline for over a year now, and it’s been one of the most captivating comic book series I’ve ever read. Coincide that with artwork by Cory Smith and colors by Ronda Pattison, and you have yourself one of the best teams in the comic industry. Seriously, can this team just pen my graphic autobiography already?

In the meantime, although it feels as if the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle universe is coming to an end, Issue #49 is not one to be missed! I am afraid of what may happen to any (or many!) of our heroes, but I guess I can wait until September to find out . . .

Until next month,
#TurtlePower!
