Geeky Parent Guide: Family-Friendly Activities on Friday at SDCC 2018

San Diego Comic-Con is back for another round today! How did you, your friends, and family fare on Thursday at the con? The Geeky Parent Guide is back to share which all-ages activities are available to attend at the 2018 SDCC on Friday. If you need a quick guide for food or transportation options, make sure to check out Thursday’s post that includes links to that information.

As for everyone attending Day 2 of SDCC, let’s find something fun and exciting to do!

*Don’t forget to notice the location of each event, as there are many events being held in nearby hotels or the local library.

FRIDAY, July 20 at San Diego Comic-Con

Cosplaying with Your Kids
Location: Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, Grand 1 & 2
Time: 10:00am – 11:00am

This panel will help you with “tips on how to get started, sources for assembling a cosplay with growing kids in mind, and social media tips.”

Young Justice: Outsiders Special Video Presentation and Q&A
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Room 6DE
Time: 10:00am – 11:00am

Fans of DC characters will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the team responsible for Young Justice: Outsiders. Families will get “a first look at one of the most highly anticipated shows of the year…Outsiders is coming soon to the DC Universe digital streaming service.”

Dreamworks Voltron Legendary Defender: A Netflix Original Series
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Room 6BCF
Time: 10:15am – 11:15am

Whether your fandom of Voltron has come from the original television series or the rebooted Netflix series, attendees will show up and get a sneak peek of the seventh season. In addition to Voltron Season 7, every visitor will take home a poster only available at San Diego Comic Con.

Hasbro My Little Pony
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Room 6A
Time: 10:30am – 11:30am

Your little ones might enjoy this panel where they can discover the ins and outs of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and My Little Pony Equestria Girls. Video from both series will be available, and there will also be a Q&A session with the voiceover stars.

ZAG Heroez Miraculous
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Room 6A
Time: 11:45am – 12:45pm

You will find voice actors of Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir and “a sneak peek into upcoming seasons of Miraculous…including movies and webisodes.” There will also be a reading of an episode’s script and giveaways for attendees.

Girl Power Comics: Middle-Grade Fiction for Girls (and Boys)
Location: San Diego Central Library, Shiley Special Events Suite
Time: 12pm – 1pm

This panel is all about the comic culture and making sure everyone knows that comics are not only about boys – and letting creators tell their stories regarding the creation of “strong, positive female characters.” This is definitely a positive message for girls and boys to learn at an early age.

DC Super Hero Girls Special Video Presentation and Q&A
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Room 6DE
Time: 12:30pm – 1:30pm

“The creative team present a first look at this upcoming series. DC Super Hero Girls is coming soon to Cartoon Network.”

LGBTQ Graphic Novels
Location: San Diego Central Library, Shiley Special Events Suite
Time: 4:00pm – 5:00pm

This session will talk about the creative process in LGBTQ graphic novels and how comics are “a safe space for all identities.”    

Celebrating 90 Years of Mickey Mouse with D23: the Official Disney Fan Club
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Room 6A
Time: 4:45pm – 5:45pm

The history of Mickey Mouse will be discussed in this panel, so what else could you ask for when it comes to families.

Sony Pictures Panel
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Hall H
Time: 6:15pm – 7:15pm

If you or your kiddos are hoping to see Venom or Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, then you’ll want to get to Hall H as soon as possible.

Star Wars Trivia Game Panel
Location: San Diego Convention Center, Room 7AB
Time: 9pm – 10pm

This later event might be better suited for parents and their teens as they dive into Star Wars trivia; h however, there is a “game round for kids aged 5 to 11, in which every child will win a prize.” Winners in this year’s trivia will take home prizes.

Free Event Outside of SDCC

Point Loma Summer Concerts
Location: Point Loma Park
Date: FRIDAY, July 20
Time: 5:30pm – 8:30pm

Note: This location is approximately 20 to 25 minutes away from the Convention Center, depending on traffic, so please plan accordingly if you have plans before or after this concert. Also, check out the park’s tip section for event rules.
