Fanboy Comics Interviews Annie Tedesco (‘Granite Flats’)

The following is an interview with actress Annie Tedesco, who can currently be seen on the original series Granite Flats, which recently launched its second season on BYUtv. In this interview, Fanboy Comics Managing Editor Barbra Dillon chats with Tedesco about what attracted her to the series and her character (Beth Milligan), her experiences in working with the cast (which includes Christopher Lloyd and Cary Elwes), and why she geeks out over Game of Thrones.

This interview was conducted on April 28, 2014.

Barbra J. Dillon, Fanboy Comics Managing Editor: Congratulations on the recent premiere of Granite Flats: Season 2! For our readers who may be unfamiliar with the TV series, how would you describe it?

Annie Tedesco: It’s a nostalgic, 1960s family drama with a twist of real life science fiction.  It’s The Wonder Years meets The X-Files, if Mulder and Scully were kids and there were 3 of them.

BD: What originally attracted you to the project, as well as to your character, Beth Milligan?

AT: I was immediately drawn to the incredible script. I was drawn to Beth, because the character isn’t as straightforward as she seems. And, as an actor, getting to play that duality is so rewarding.

BD: Are there any details regarding Season 2 that you are able to share with our readers?

AT: This season is going to feature Cary Elwes and Christopher Lloyd as guest stars, and everyone in this season has secrets.

BD: The cast and crew consist of some amazingly talented creators and performers.  Can you tell us about the process of working with the creative team and how it may have varied from Season 1 to Season 2?

AT: We’re a tight-knit cast that loves working together.  Everyone is wonderful and down to earth. Our writers, directors, and producers have really allowed us all to grow creatively with our characters as the storyline gets more and more intricate and evolved.

BD: With your past credits ranging from theatre to film and TV, do you find that each medium offers different experiences and/or challenges to you as an actor?

AT: Yes, for theatre there’s an immediate response and immediate gratification, but there’s nothing more nerve inducing. Film & TV are also very intimate, performance wise, with the camera shooting so close. And, I enjoy all of them so very much.

BD: Are there any other projects on which you are working that you are able to share with our readers?

AT: I have two great upcoming indie films out later this year including Visions, starring Isla Fisher, Eva Longoria, Jim Parsons, and Anson Mount, and 10 Things I Hate About Life with Evan Rachel Wood.

BD: Being that we focus on all things “geek” at Fanboy Comics, would you care to geek out with us about your favorite TV shows or movies?

AT: I could geek out with you all day long with Game of Thrones. I day dream about about commanding dragons and being Factionless as I tear through the last book of the Divergent series.  I did take an online quiz, and I’m Dauntless.

BD: Lastly, what would you like to tell fans who want to learn more about Granite Flats or your other work?

AT: If you missed the first season you can watch it now on GraniteFlats.com, and it’s a great show for families to watch together.  I'm also on Twitter, @AnnieTedesco.
