‘Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Ghosts #1’ – Advance Comic Book Review

Who doesn’t love a good ghost story? The Jim Henson’s The Storyteller series does it again with a new series of ghost stories. If you are not familiar with this line through BOOM! Studios, it is a series of short stories told by a character called ”the storyteller” with his faithful dog at his side, listening to his tales. The stories themselves do, in fact, come from The Jim Henson Company and continue to carry the torch of telling touching, mythical fairy tales (like The Dark Crystal).

This first ghost tale is about a mythical being known as a Myling, a spirit of a dead soul that wants to rest. It feels like a dark Brothers Grimm-style story, birthed from almost gothic folklore. Unlike most comics, it is told almost exclusively by the narrator which adds to the overall storytelling aspect. Mark Laszlo’s art was a good indicator of the story’s style; it was very European with its thin lines and quirky style.

If you like old-school fairy tales and folklore, bust out the s’mores, find a campfire, and pick up the first issue of the new Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Ghosts #1 at your local comic book shop.
