Geeks Care: How You Can Help Geek & Sundry, Twitch.tv, and the Lupus Foundation of America

When Fanboy Comics is not providing you with the latest in geek news and entertainment, the FBC staff hopes to offer our readers a myriad of opportunities to give back to the community. We love reading comics, watching movies, and playing video games, but we are never happier than when we are able to help others in need. With Geeks Care: How You Can Help, FBC will provide you a variety of causes that would greatly appreciate your time.

This week’s edition of Geeks Care: How You Can Help comes to Fanboy Comics from the fine folks at Geek & Sundry, the online community led by founder Felicia Day that is centered around web videos with shows about comics, games, books, hobbies and more.  Geeks Care is focusing on Geek & Sundry this week, as the site recently announced that it will be streaming on the interactive gaming platform, Twitch.tv, every day starting on March 3, and they are celebrating this announcement with a 48-hour charity livestream marathon to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America.

The three-day charity event, taking place March 3-5, 2015, will raise money to benefit the Lupus Foundation of America in honor of Day’s friend, Maurissa Tancharoen, one of the showrunners of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood autoimmune disease and is something that Tancharoen and countless others live with every day. In America alone, 1.5 million people have been affected by this mysterious disease.

The Lupus Foundation of America is the only national force devoted to solving the mystery of the disease, and funding for the organization provides this opportunity to lupus researchers and advocates the ability to raise awareness and funds to support the millions of people living with this disease.

Readers interested in learning more about The Lupus Foundation of America may visit the official website. In addition, those interested in participating in Geek & Sundry’s charity marathon with games, giveaways, live performances, and specials guests for 48 hours straight should visit the organization’s Twitch page starting at 5 p.m. on March 3 using the hastag #LetsPlayTogether to keep tabs throughout the marathon.
