‘Satanic Hell #1:’ UPDATED Comic Book Review – Still Not Welcome in Texas (Did We Mention Get the F#$% Out?)

Some of my fellow comic book sniffers out there in Geekdom may have read some of my reviews of the indie industrial metal comic known as Satanic Hell, which tells the tale of the metal band of the same name encountering and fighting against a “religious dystopia” in the Lone Star state. Well, Satanic Hell is now being published by Alterna Comics as a seven-issue series, giving you another chance to “dance with the devil” by picking up a copy at ComiXology!

MINOR SPOILERS BELOW

Alterna Comics released Satanic Hell #1 on November 19th, but there’s still plenty of time to jump on this crazy train, and for fans of hardcore music and hardcore comics, it’s a unique and intriguing story created by writer Grigoris Douros and the rest of his creative team [Artist Kevin Enhart (215 Ink, Hound Comics), artist Newel Anderson, colorist Jimmy Kerast (Akileos, Markosia), and letterer E.T. Dollman (Image, Arcana, Ape)]. While the release with Alterna Comics came with a new cover, a new lettering job, and some new edits, as I stated in my initial review, Satanic Hell #1 hits like “Footloose on industrial metal steroids” and features the incredibly interesting topic of “religious authority taking power through privatization.”

While Texas does take it on the chin in Douros’ script and I still feel that some readers may be “slightly put off or offended” by Satanic Hell’s depiction of the state or its conservative values, the writer is clearly crafting a satirical epic of sorts. Douros’ exaggerated tone is sure to strike a cord with a specific segment of rebellious readers. As I stated in a previous review, “As long as you’re not easily offended, you will be able to rock your way through Satanic Hell.”

Be sure to read my previous reviews of the series to get an even more detailed examination of this unique comic series:

That’s all for now, comic book sniffers!
