Everything done in Chicago comes with strings attached.  In this alternate history epic, Chicago’s streets are patrolled not only by the police, but superpowered humans who work for the Chicago Organized Workers League, a union of super and non-superheroes who are the check to the supers that fall on the other side of the law.  Allegorical to the union struggles of the same era, the story magnifies the power moves and underhanded dealings that built the modern metropolis that stands today.

Browncoats, rejoice!  Firefly’s back!  Feeling like no gorram moron ever took to the axe to our beloved show, Leaves on the Wind picks up right after the events of the film, Serenity.  It’s a new, dangerous ‘verse, and Captain Tightpants is just trying to keep his ship in the air and his family safe.

As Halloween is fast approaching, the Fanboy Comics staff and contributors decided that there was no better way to celebrate this horrifically haunting holiday than by sharing our favorite scary stories! Be they movies, TV shows, video games, novels, or anything other form of entertainment, members of the FBC crew will be sharing their "scariest" stories each day leading up to Halloween. There aren’t too many things that are as frightening as the tongue-twisting title above, but if you decide to stick around for the rest of this sordid, little tale, I can promise you a story that won’t disappoint. (No guarantees and no money back. Offer valid in 49 states. Sorry, Tennessee.)

Fanboy Comics’ Scariest: Voldemort

When this assignment was first sent to me, my mind immediately went into a racing frenzy! I mean, there are so many amazing villains out there in the comic book world, not to mention those in film, TV, books, video games, and whatever other media you can think of. But, who is ultimately the SCARIEST?

I attended high school in the late '80s in a small, isolated town in Arizona.  This small, isolated hgh school boasted about 60 students during the years I attended; there were 15 kids in my graduating class, and we were one of the bigger classes.  We were over an hour away from the nearest “big town,” from its movies, malls, and restaurants.

What is truth?  If enough people agree on a thing, does it become a reality?  If you have enough power, is everything you say law?

Anybody else remember the What A Cartoon Show on Cartoon Network?  I remember seeing the inaugural episodes of Dexter’s Lab, Johnny Bravo, Two Stupid Dogs, and countless others by Gendy Tartakofsky, among others.  If you’re like me and have a fond nostalgia for those cartoons, then you’re going to love this 11-book event and this issue, in particular.

This whole month has been torture for me! Ever since I read the first issue of Little Nemo: Return to Slumberland back in August, I could hardly wait for October to read the next chapter in this fresh, new comic book series. I was immediately hooked by Eric Shanower's beautiful story and unique take on the brilliant works of Winsor McCay.

I didn’t know what to expect jumping into the middle of a series like The Goon.  The noirish styling gave the feel of the old Dick Tracey strips, and I was intrigued by the shape and heft of the characters.  There are not a ton of books I see where a character design grabs me not so much by the look, but by the intensity behind it.  The Goon is just a guy in a hat, no cape, no mask to build into an identity.  He seems like the blue-collar working man, an everyman at first glance.  But, the menace and honor that seem to radiate from his simple form makes an instant impression, one that made me want to jump in and see what this guy’s all about.

‘Brothers:’ Comic Book Review

Brothers is an indie comic about two brothers on opposite ends of the superpower spectrum. One is a hero, while the other is a villain. The beginning of the comic, which takes place in present day, shows one of the brothers in a graveyard. Flashback to years earlier, when hero Mattie is leaving to deal once again with his evil brother. The reader learns that the feud has been happening since they were kids, and that the last time they met, Mattie told his brother he would kill him if they met again.
