A Love Letter to Daniel Radcliffe

Love is in the air at Fanboy Comics! In this magical month of romance and enchantment, the FBC Staff and Contributors decided to take a moment to stop and smell the roses. In the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, a few members of the Fanboy Comics crew will be sharing their very personal “Love Letters” with our readers, addressed to the ones that they adore the most.

Dear Harry Potter,

Yes. I know your name is Daniel Radcliffe. And yes, you are an amazing actor. Seriously! I saw you in The Cripple of Inishmaan on Broadway. Front row. We locked eyes during one of your big monologues, and I nearly wet my pants.  I was blown away by your performance. Always have been. I’m sure I always will. But, I just can’t stop thinking about you as “the boy who lived.”

You don’t know this, but we grew up together. Well. Sort of. I saw you in your first film. Harry Potter and the Something-Or-Rather. Oh, who am I kidding. It was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone! I would know that answer if you asked me on my death bed. And, sure. I might have been in college when I saw your first film.

And, you where what? 11? 12? Let’s just say there’s a good 6 to 7 years in age between us. But, your performance as the boy with the lightning scar made me want to read again. I used to hate reading, but the Harry Potter films made me read faster than I could count. And, that’s on you!

Over the next few years, I attended multiple midnight events . . . dressed as you! I went to book releases and film releases and costume parties and so on. I was even on the cover of The New York Post one year as the best dressed Harry Potter waiting in line to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. That was a good time! So again, I stand by saying that we grew up together . . .

But, in all honesty, I think we would be great friends. We’re both actors who share a love for musical theatre. We both stand up for equal rights. We’re both naturally funny. And, I’ll admit, we’re both dashingly good looking!

But really, I just want to thank you. Thank you for allowing me to watch you grow into the successful young man you are today. Thank you for getting me to read again, even if I still mostly read children’s novels. Thank you for making me cry. Thank you for making me laugh. Thank you for letting me dress like you and BE YOU, even if only for a few hours. Thank you for giving me and the rest of the world a character to believe in. A character who isn’t afraid of how truly evil the world can be. A character that also made Universal Studios the new Disney World for adults.

Just. Thank you.

Love always,
