‘Reyn #5:’ Comic Book Review

Issue #5 of Reyn has really picked up the pace; this issue is fantastic!  It opens with Reyn and the techno-wizards facing off against a hoard of Venn. (Those are the lizard-like creatures. Picture evil Ninja Turtles.)  The fight is intense and the action persists throughout nearly the entire issue.  No real spoilers here, but I’ll say that the battle is, at once, thrilling and devastating, and the cliffhanger at the end is insane.

I have been very much enjoying the series thus far, but this issue was my favorite, aside from maybe the first one.  Symons has been laying down a whole lot of puzzle pieces in the first four issues, and it’s felt to me like none of them were connecting.  And, while we still don’t know exactly what’s going on, this issue felt revelatory, like that moment when you suddenly bring together eight or nine little chunks of the puzzle and get your first real glimpse at the bigger picture.  I’m excited and intrigued to see where this story goes next!

Nate Stockman’s art continues to be dynamic and enthralling.  He deftly maneuvers between the frenetic fight sequences and the tender moments as our heroes struggle to protect each other and escape their attackers. Between the art and the script, this one is firing on all cylinders, folks.  You’d better jump on now, too, because I have a feeling things are only going to get better from here on out.
