In this final chapter in the Buzzkill saga, our hero’s battle for sobriety against the demons of his past culminates in an actual battle against the biggest demon of them all. The stakes are incredibly high. Since he gets his super strength from abusing alcohol, it means that to win either battle means to lose the other. The tension in this issue is so thick, you can cut it with a knife. It has all the makings of an incredible conclusion to a truly unique and interesting story.

Except it ends up being kind of a letdown. Without giving away any spoilers . . . it ends kind of abruptly. And, to me, at least, it was a little confusing as to what exactly was going on. It could have used at least another issue to wrap things up properly. I could even go for an ongoing series of this title. It’s such a cool and original concept that I’d love to see more. After all, recovery is an ongoing process, so I’m sure there’s far more for the creators to explore.

Buzzkill has been a great ride all the way through, but it still feels unfinished. It feels unsatisfying. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I missed something. I don’t know, and I can’t really say much about it in this review—not without spoilers.

Anyway, if you’ve been keeping up with the story thus far, then you’ll definitely want to read Issue #4, even if it’s just to see it through to the end. And, if you haven’t been keeping up, then you really should be, because there’s been some great stuff all the way through. Some of it’s funny, some of it’s powerful, and a good deal of it is completely unique. Even in the first half of this final issue, the tension that’s built up is truly a thing of beauty. As for the rest . . . well, you can decide for yourself.
