‘Bullet Gal #12:’ Comic Book Review

This is it. The final issue of Andrez Bergen’s gritty and exciting noir superhero comic, Bullet Gal. I’ve been reading this comic since it began over a year ago. I’ve become invested in the story and the characters. And now, it’s over. I suppose it goes without saying that I’m sad to see it end. Still, it’s been a pretty amazing ride all through.

Lee, known to the good citizens of Heropa as Major Patriot, and Mitzi, known to the good citizens of Heropa as Bullet Gal, are forming a brand new superhero team—and taking on brand new superhero identities in the process. Major Patriot will now be Sir Omphalos. Bullet Gal will now be the Aerialist, trading in her pistols for a jet pack. Their world is changing before their eyes, and they want to make sure that it’s still safe and free. One thing is certain, though: their enemies won’t make it easy for them.

This is a worthy ending to a great series. If you haven’t been following it from the beginning, then I highly recommend doing just that. Sometimes funny, sometimes exciting, occasionally tragic, Bullet Gal is noir at its finest—with superheroes, to boot!

Issue #12 not only finishes up the story arc, it brings everything full circle, to where things were at the beginning of Who Is Killing the Great Capes of Heropa?, Bergen’s novel which explores the same setting and many of the same characters. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend that, as well. You’ll see that there’s so much more to explore.

Even if you have read Heropa, there’s still a lot more that can be explored in this world. There are plenty of characters, events, and situations that I’d love to see more of. Perhaps someday, Bergen will come back to this world and delve into it further. But, for now, it’s time to say goodbye to Mitzi and Lee and all of the others. They will be missed.
