According to the Power-Con program, “Our goal is to maximize fan exposure to the creative background and history of He-Man and She-Ra while helping to spread awareness for what is new and upcoming for both brands. Organized and run by fans, Power-Con strives to give those in attendance some powerful memories to cherish forever.” Since 2011, fans have been converging on Southern California each year to celebrate the Masters of the Universe (MOTU) and Princess of Power (POP) IPs. This year, the eighth annual Power-Con was held at the Hilton Anaheim and run by a group of dedicated volunteers led by Event Director Val Staples. This was my second year attending, and, once again, for a person not well versed in either IP, I had an enjoyable time for several reasons.
Power-Con, as in prior years, delivers heavily on quality programming for its attendees, and this year was no different, with panels discussing everything from toys to the big news of Kevin Smith bringing He-Man to Netflix. As big of a news item as that is, the acclaimed She-Ra and the Princess of Power had just started its third season on Netflix earlier in August. To commemorate the event and all that the cartoon has accomplished thus far, Power-Con gathered the writers of She-Ra for an in-depth panel on not just the She-Ra cartoon, but what it is like to be a writer for the show and the important aspects – from diversity to creating a safe space – that they encourage.

The panel was billed as an in-depth examination of Carey Pietsch's artistic process during the creation of The Adventure Zone: Here There Be Gerblins (an adaptation of the hugely popular podcast, The Adventure Zone, which features a family playing Dungeons & Dragons) with input from one of the book's authors, Clint McElroy.
