Hot on the heels of last week’s column, where I talked about the possibility and importance of Lynda Carter making a cameo in the Wonder Woman film, reports immediately sprang up that Carter’s publicist confirmed she would NOT be appearing in the film. It was a slap in the face.

I won’t go on too much about it, but suffice it to say I think it’s a huge mistake and a wasted opportunity not to feature Carter, but I guess that’s the way the cookie crumbles. That said, I still look forward to the film and support it based on what I have seen so far. Sally forth and all that.

Which brings us to the point of this week’s column. I would like to thank Ricky LaChance from my Wonder Woman Collector’s Club on Facebook for letting me use his amazing Wonder Woman collage as the art for this week’s column. I can’t stop staring at it. I confess to having made it the wallpaper on my phone. It really captures many varied and different looks and eras of Wonder Woman, and I absolutely love each incarnation.

It got me thinking how silly all of the controversy is over the portrayal of Wonder Woman. Changing her costume? Changing details of her origin? As evidenced by this collage, she’s been evolving all along. Not to say I’ve been a fan of every chapter in the character’s history, but, overall, the essence and meaning of the character have always prevailed.

Whether it’s Lynda Carter, Superfriends Wonder Woman ,or Gal Gadot, every Wonder fan has their favorite version of Wonder Woman. I’d be hard pressed to pick one, but I could probably do a top five. I think Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins put it quite eloquently recently when explaining who Wonder Woman was: “The greatest thing about Wonder Woman is how good and kind and loving she is . . . and none of that negates her power.”

I think our girl is in good hands. No matter what kind of Wonder Woman fan you are, that is a common bond in itself. We are Wonder Woman.
