It should be no surprise to anyone (As they hyped the heck out of it!) that Northstar was joining the ranks of long-suffering heterosexuals by marrying his boyfriend, Kyle.
Should Marvel be praised for championing gay rights or condemned for jumping on the big, gay bandwagon following Obama's day late, dollar short, half-@$$ed endorsement of same sex marriage? Mind you, I'm not complaining; any furthering of gay rights is good in my book. You choose your battles.
When I attended the D23 conference last August, the trailer for Disney•Pixar's Brave struck me as a strong departure from their typical animated fare. We don't have a male lead or a helpless princess or a film with a built-in merchandising empire. Instead, we have a strong, stubborn, independent, and fierce gal by the name of Merida. She wants to live life on her own terms, but she is going to learn the hard way how to get there. It is a gorgeous film, but I am not sure it is for everyone. Here are my three reasons to see Brave:

It was hard not to act like a giddy fan when I was offered the opportunity to interview some of the cast of Rock of Ages. I am a huge musical theatre geek, and this movie was my Avengers, Hunger Games, and Prometheus all rolled into one film. Yep, this was my summer movie. Rock of Ages, helmed by director Adam Shankman, follows the tale of a small town girl . . . oh, you know how the song goes. It takes you back to a time in Los Angeles when the Sunset Strip was the hub of music, but changes were brewing with the emergence of synthesized music and the rebirth of boy bands. While rock never dies, it is fun to take a step back in time when hair bands ruled the airwaves.

Thunderbolts is one of those titles that is always good when I read it, and I always drop off at some point for some unknown Bermuda Trianglesque reason. Luckily, Thunderbolts has a history of re-inventing itself in fun and interesting ways, perhaps intentionally to bring back readers to the title. They must be doing something right; numbered at #175 is unprecedented with rampant revisions and renumbering ruling the day.
I should say here that I was a huge fan of the b@$tard child of Marvel's Civil War, Dark Avengers. I was sorely disappointed when it was canceled after only 18 issues. So, now it appears the latest Thunderbolts makeover comes in the form of a melding with the Dark Avengers concept. Color me intrigued. I was initially drawn in by the beautiful cover by Mike Deidato, Jr. (That man can draw!) The cover did not prepare me for the surprise I was in for.

We're all aware that mermaids are sea folklore of beauteous maidens: half-women, half fishtail. Legendary sirens that would lure seamen to their deaths with their irresistible pipes.
We're all also aware of the juggernaut adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid that continues to be a huge cash cow for Disney to this day. Hey, I love that little fish stick, but I love Ursula the Sea Witch even more. What can I tell you? I'm a sucker for a sassy drag queen.
Most of you are probably less aware of the often described mockumentary Mermaids: The Body Found currently airing on Animal Planet. But, you should be and here's why.

Hot on the high heels of the half a$$ed endorsement of same-sex marriage by President Obama, prematurely forced by Vice President Joe Biden's honest, humble opinion on the matter...half a$$ed? Well, he endorses same-sex marriage but believes it should be a state and NOT a federal decision? Women should no longer be able to vote in Iowa, while you're at it.
Desperately jumping on the pop culture band wagon, Marvel announces the same-sex marriage of long-suffering homosexual and Canadian mutant Northstar to his unrealistic in the real gay world boyfriend Kyle. Ironically, Northstar came out years ago, grabbing many a headline only to go back to being as sexless as a Ken Doll for years.
When you interview someone, you never know how circumstances will change over the course of several months. When I interviewed Dan Harmon at Paley Fest 2012 back in March, the big news was about the return of Community to the NBC lineup after an unplanned hiatus.
