Fanbase Press Interviews Bruce Miller on His New Book, ‘Beware the Ides of March’

The following is an interview with writer Bruce Miller regarding the release of his new book, Beware the Ides of March: A Novel Based on Psychic Readings. In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with Miller about the inspiration for the book, what he hopes that readers will take away from his work, his plans for future projects, and more!

Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: Congratulations on the release of your recent novel, Beware the Ides of March!  For those who may be unfamiliar, how would you describe the book’s premise, and what inspired you to tell this story?

Bruce Miller: The book is based on actual psychic readings which occurred when I was in my early twenties.  My girlfriend’s mother, a psychic, told my fortune using her genuine psychic ability and a deck of ordinary playing cards.  Like Ron Dalton in this novel, I dismissed the prophecy.  Years later, it happened exactly as she stated, though the consequences weren’t nearly as disastrous as they were for Ron. So, it’s perhaps fair to say, Beware the Ides of March is inspired by true events. I’ve only had my fortune told once… and I’ll never do it again.

BD: What can you share with us about your creative process in writing the book, and what have been some of your creative influences?

BM: As I wrote the story, I remembered most of the fortune-telling sessions I had with Dorothy, the psychic. As I started to write about it, I began remembering more of what she had told me many years ago, just as the lawyer in the story likewise remembered what the psychic told him when certain events occurred triggering forgotten memories.

BD: What do you hope that readers will take away from your work?

BM: Psychics are very real, and some have more psychic ability than others, just like Dorothy (who told my fortune) and her friend (Carmen) who had exceptional psychic ability are described in this story.

When Dorothy read my disastrous fortune, she would break down in tears and become emotionally exhausted foreseeing horrendous events. Dorothy told me she could change minor events in the future, but her power to do even minor events wasn’t anything she could rely on.  She also told me changing major future events were beyond her power. Dorothy told me of her friend Carmen who was a very powerful psychic.  Dorothy met several times with Carmen, and both of them together tried very hard to use their psychic abilities to prevent the murder of the young pregnant woman they saw destined to be martyred in my fictionalized version of the story.

BD: Do you have plans to expand the story into an ongoing series?

BM: I would like to; however, this story seems to stand alone since it was based on several fortune-telling sessions I had with the psychic, and I don’t want to spoil it right now by fictionalizing it more in a later story.

BD: If given the opportunity to expand your series into other entertainment mediums, in what format do you hope to see it adapted?

BM: A literary agent in New York who read my manuscript asked me to write a screenplay for this story, since the story has so much action in it. So, I collaborated with a screenwriter in Cardiff, Wales, and we’ve written a screenplay for a feature film of this story.  I plan to do an audio book, as well.

BD: Are there any upcoming projects on which you are currently working that you would like to share with our readers?

BM: I am continuing to write books mostly about humor, relaxation, and golf. I believe it’s easier to golf at a higher level when you are relaxed, and laughter has been proven to make you automatically relax. We are all better people when we are relaxed.  But being relaxed is difficult to do in today’s hectic society.  I think often of the famous words of comedian, Bill Murray, who spoke with genius when he said, “The more relaxed you are, the better you are at everything: the better you are with your loved ones, the better you are with your enemies, the better you are at your job, the better you are with yourself.”

BD: Lastly, what is the best way for our readers to find more information about Beware the Ides of March?

BM: I have several emails for various projects and the best one to reach me now is golfwellnet (at) yahoo (dot) com or at info (at) teamgolfwell (dot) com.

I am seeking more reviews for this book, so I would be happy to send a free copy of this book to anyone interested in reading it and to give it a short review if they like the story.

My website is www.TeamGolfwell.com, and we are in New Zealand.

The book is, of course, available on Amazon in Kindle and Paperback. The link to the book is here.

*Beware the Ides of March: A Novel Based on Psychic Readings is normally $7.52 on Kindle.  This week, January 8-12, 2018, the book is free on Kindle.
