Fanbase Press Interviews Tiernen Trevallion on the Release of ‘Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Her Fatal Hour’ from Dark Horse

The following is an interview with artist Tiernen Trevallion regarding the release of the comic book one-shot, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Her Fatal Hour, from Dark Horse Comics. In this interview, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief Barbra Dillon chats with Trevallion about the shared creative process of bringing the story to life, the impact that it may have in resonating with new and long-time readers, and more!

Barbra Dillon, Fanbase Press Editor-in-Chief: Today sees the release of your new Hellboy one-shot, Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Her Fatal Hour, in collaboration with Mike Mignola, Dave Stewart, and Dark Horse Comics.  For returning readers, where will this new comic find our titular characters in their adventures?

Tiernen Trevallion: Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Her Fatal Hour is a follow-up to the one-shot story, “The Beast of Vargu.” That story, which was set in 1962, featured Hellboy going up against a murderer from the 14th century who was back from the dead. You don’t need to read that story to enjoy Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Her Fatal Hour, though.

BD: How would you describe your experience in expanding the Hellboy universe and working with the creative team to bring the story to life?

TT: As a longtime Hellboy fan, it was wonderful to collaborate with Mike Mignola. I’ve long admired his storytelling and the Hellboy universe. I’d love to come back for an encore performance.

BD: At Fanbase Press this year, our #StoriesMatter initiative endeavors to highlight the impact that stories can have on audiences of various mediums.  How do you feel that this particular Hellboy story will connect with and impact readers?

TT: To be honest, that’s not something I can’t comfortably second-guess. If I’ve done my job right, then readers will find the work to be a charming mix of horror, humor, and adventure.

BD: Are there any additional projects on which you are working that you are able to share with our readers?

TT: I’m currently working on another series of Fiends of the Eastern Front with Ian Edginton for the British anthology 2000AD. There’s a few projects being sketched out…

BD: Lastly, what would you like to tell fans who want to learn more about Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: Her Fatal Hour

TT: Buy it. If you don’t, you’ll never find out what Hellboy looks like in a ladies’ nightgown, or why he’s wearing one….
