Less violent than other issues, this one revolves around the various storylines.  You get a glimpse of Mila’s burgeoning magical abilities while Iffy and Andy make new allies.  Mother may ultimately get what she’s always wished for, but not the way she imaged it.  There are subtle pivotal moments here that you need to pay attention to.

I liked the change up in lettering style for Mila’s dairy, and there are some nice lighthearted moments before things go south again.  The idea and concept of the World-Speaker was terrific; I loved the imagination behind that. Here is a being who has the ability to communicate instantaneously across the galaxy without any technological help.  Enslaved by Mother’s people, I’d really like to know more about their civilization and how it became a prisoner.

On a more serious note… Much like Star Wars, the series revolves around the themes of authoritarianism, subjugation, and how technology has become an integral part of our lives.  Like the best science fiction, this issue touches on many of the concerns we have today and will probably have for a long time to come.  

If you haven’t picked up the prequel series, Descender, I’d suggest you do that today.
