‘Star Wars Adventures #14:’ Advance Comic Book Review

Bounty Hunters! Do we need their scum? IDW’s Star Wars Adventures #14 tells us that we do with not one, but TWO stories. These tales feature different sides of their individual characters.

In the first tale, “Repair Stop, Part Two,” Rey and BB-8 face off against the bounty hunter Kief Varris. This is the second of a two-part story. When attempting to save Togruta smuggler Moebin Faltus, Rey uses brains rather than brawn against the First Order hunter. But, is appealing to his ego enough to save them all? Only writer George Mann and artist Butch Mapa have the answers.

“Repair Shop, Part 2” is great for a number of reasons. It gives insight and depth to Rey’s character; she’s not just strong with The Force, she’s also intelligent and can strike at an opponent’s weakness no matter what it may be. The art is cartoony but has a clear style that hearkens back to the days of the Batman Adventures comics from the 1990s by the late Mike Parobeck.

The second story, “A Very Nihl Interlude,” is written by New York Times-bestselling sci-fi author Justina Ireland and drawn by Nick Brokenshire. In it, we see Nihl hunter Deva Lompop and her interactions with a Nautolan child who is being bullied. This sweet story shows us a bounty hunter with a heart of gold.

Star Wars Adventures #14, like all issues of the series, is a super-fun journey. It can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. This series is always wonderful to read.
