‘Eight Billion Genies #5:’ Advance Comic Book Review

We’re now in the back half of the series, and it’s become pretty apparent that the world is totally off the rails. With under 500,000 genies left for the remaining fifty million humans still on Earth, the landscape of the planet has changed so much that it’s hard to even recognize what once was. Thankfully, havens like the Lampwick are still safe and untouched, thanks to the quick thinking of its owner; however, as months pass and it becomes impossible to even go outside without risking a swift death, the world slows as the characters we’ve been following are basically stuck inside the bar.

That’s not all, though. With young Robbie out in the world doing his superhero thing, it appears that the Lampwick isn’t the only haven, and the leader of the newly discovered Hope’s Hollow has big plans for what’s left of the world.

As interesting as this series has been, it’s only gotten more fascinating as this issue begins the trek towards the end of the series. As we progress into the first eight years since the event they’re calling “G-Day”, there’s no telling what kind of place the world will be in and who will still be around to find out.

I’m a bit sad to see this series nearing its conclusion, but I’m excited to see where it’s going to go from here. Seeing the population count after eight months was an absolute shock, and it’s only gotten more wild from there. Writer Charles Soule and artist Ryan Browne are doing some excellent work in making this one of the most unique series out there right now, something that has become a bit of a pattern whenever the two of them team up.

This is especially true for Browne, who seems to get better and better as he gets going on a series. The artwork is fantastic, with vibrant colors and an impressive display of weird places and people. It will be a treat to see where this series goes from this impactful point.
